Our programs consist of Ten (10) visits annually billed per visit. Lawns and Plants are better able to withstand drought, crowd out weeds and use there own natural defense systems to resist attacks from insect and disease causing organisms.
The best weed preventer is a thick lush turf. We will apply pre-emergent weed control and spot spray only selective post emergent weed control for broadleaf and grassy weeds to maintain a mostly weed free area in turf and plant beds. Fungicides for control of turf diseases may used with home owners approval. Proper mulching techniques in plant beds and spot application only for existing weeds in turf areas greatly reduces the amount of pesticides that are applied to the environment.
No synthetic pesticides are used in this program. Any weed, insect or disease issues will be treated using organic products and techniques only. Strictly Organic landscapes will have some weed encroachment in our region of the country. However there are some organic options such as corn gluten (see below for information) and other non selective post emergent products such as clove oil or horticultural vinegar along with proper mowing techniques and cultural controls that may decrease the amount of weeds in turf areas over time. Of course the best weed preventer is a thick lush turf supported by a healthy soil ecosystem. Disease issues will be treated using organic methods only. Lawn Care Program - Warm Season Grasses ( Ten visits annually) – A) Pre-emergent applications x2. (B) Organic Fertilization x4 per year. (C) Compost Tea Applications x3. (D) Lime or other supplement as needed according to soil test analysis x1. (E) Post emergent weed control spot applications only as needed. (F) Soil testing (PH). (G) Insect and disease Monitoring. Lawn Care Program - Cool Season Grasses ( Ten visits annually) - A) Pre-emergent applications x2. (B) Organic Fertilization x4 per year. (C) Compost Tea Applications x3. (D) Lime or other supplement as needed according to soil test analysis x1. (E) Post emergent weed control spot applications only as needed. (F) Soil testing (PH). (G) Insect and disease Monitoring.
Plant Care Program ( Seven visits annually) – (A.) Insect and disease monitoring (B.) Fertilization using granular fertilizer. (C.) Foliar feeding using sea kelp or other natural supplements. (D.) Soil Amendment using Compost Tea. (E.) Deep root feeding using beneficial fungi or friendly bacteria such as Mycorrhizae and rhizobacteria. (F.) Neem Oil or Garlic oil sprays for control of insect and disease issues.
STRICTLY ORGANIC OPTIONS FOR WEED CONTROL Corn Gluten as a root inhibitor Important information regarding the use of corn gluten please read carefully: What is Corn Gluten ? Corn gluten is a by-product of the wet milling of corn. Because it is more than 60% protein, it has long been used as an animal feed. That "more than 60%" protein means that it is also 10% nitrogen, a water insoluble form of nitrogen that releases slowly and so will not burn. There is no contact problem for children or animals that may play on the lawn even immediately after it is applied. It does not leach or run off. There is no manure so there are no noxious odors. How does it prevent weeds? While seeds will germinate, corn gluten inhibits root development, which means that the newly emerged weeds simply fade away. It takes three to five years of application (2x per year) for this product to work up to its best potential. The number of the listed weeds will decrease at 15% to 30% the first year. During the third year, these weeds should not be a factor: crab grass, foxtail, lamb's quarter, purslane and redwood pigweed. It will also prevent new dandelions from developing from dandelion seed, but does not affect the perennial weeds that already have well established root systems. In addition, because corn gluten meal is an excellent fertilizer, it will thicken the turf, crowding out weeds. The best weed preventer is thick, healthy turf.
