Types of fertilizers

Not all fertilizers are created equal.  Lawn and garden fertilizers can be classified into three types or groups: synthetic, organic and organic based bridge products.

Synthetic fertilizers are man made products.  Unless formulated for slow release these fertilizers are highly water soluble.  Nutrients from these fertilizers are available for quick absorption  by the plants but most  plants cannot absorb the nutrients at the rate of release. The extra nutrients are then washed into our streams, lakes and oceans via rain and irrigation.

Synthetic fertilizers have been proven to deplete organic matter in the soil leaving no food for the micro organisms to feed on, thus your soil becomes lifeless and your plants and turf become dependent on those fertilizers for survival.

By using organic based bridge fertilizers and organic fertilizers, organic matter is returned to the soil thus feeding the micro flora population in the soil.  This creates a natural balanced soil environment upon which plants and grasses can thrive in a balanced soil food web thus giving you the peace of mind knowing that your family and pets can enjoy your landscape the way they should, the way it ought to be.

Organic based Bridge and Organic type fertilizers

The types of fertilizers we use at Earth Balance are organic based bridge and OMRI listed organic fertilizers.  The difference between the two are the inclusion of urea in the bridge product. This limited source of nitrogen is immediately released into the soil profile making it immediately available for absorption by the plants roots.  The organic components are then slowly released and feed not only the plants but the soil micro organisms as well by supplying valuable organic matter to the soil.

These organic fertilizers are slow release and provide excellent residual color and density with even growth.  They begin to release within 7 days of application and will provide a constant supply of nitrogen for approximately 7 weeks.   Feeding your soil with organic fertilizers improves the plants ability to withstand drought and fend off diseases and insects.  They also benefit the plants by providing a deeper root system and stronger immune system.

There is no need to worry about staying off your lawn after application of organic fertilizers as you would with synthetic fertilizers.  A low salt index means no burning of your lawn or your skin.  These organic fertilizers give you the peace of mind your family demands to fully enjoy your lawn and landscape.
